Project Description:

Banana growing is of high value to the community because it sustains the environment from desertification since it is a perennial crop that can last for more than 30 years in existence. Due to vibrant civil wars and deadly diseases affecting the area, citizens move up and down escaping wars and they end up failing to concentrate on farming and this is why famine has struck the south Kivu Province. Banana growing in this province is of poor quality and this project will import hy-breed banana plants/suckers from our neighbouring country Uganda where banana growing has been improved. This project will help us to sensitize the community about humanism as we teach people on how to grow quality bananas for community sustainability. This project will directly benefit war affected families and Ebola affected families. Congo has a large geographical area which allows commercial farming.

PROJECT OBJECTIVES,

§  Increased income among Ebola and war affected families in Sud Kivu

§  Community awareness of environmental conservation through growing bananas
